The 15 yard container in Chesapeake
The 15 yard is the middle size: too much job for a 10, not enough for a 20. Garage, attic and basement cleanouts, single-room remodels, flooring, carpet and drywall, deck or small porch removal, and yard cleanups are the usual fits. It holds about 15 cubic yards, roughly four to five pickup truck loads.
At about 14 feet long and 8 feet wide it gives you more room than a 10 without taking over the driveway, and its lower sides make it easy to load by hand. Heavier material such as shingles, soil or tile can go in it, within the weight limit.
Space needed
a flat, solid spot about 14 feet long and 8 feet wide, such as a driveway or pavement, not the lawn, with clear room for the truck to reach it and pull out, and no vehicles or obstructions in the way; we check the spot on the call
Kitchens, floors, decks and yards
A medium renovation fills a 15 quickly: cabinets, drywall, flooring and fixtures from one or two rooms. Flooring and carpet are bulky, and tile is dense, so watch the weight. Break deck boards and fence sections down so they load flat.
Yard and storm debris fits as well: branches, shrubs, leaves and green waste from a seasonal cleanup or a tree trim. Shingles from a small roof fit a 15 as long as the weight is planned first.
Weight on a 15 yard
The 15 yard includes about 2 to 3 tons of disposal, depending on the debris. Shingles and tile reach that quickly; cabinets, drywall and furniture rarely do. If more than half the load is heavy material, call us first, because a 10 yard may cost less. Keep debris level with or below the top rim. An overfilled dumpster cannot be hauled safely, and we swap it for an empty one instead. The flat rate covers delivery, pickup, disposal within the weight limit and a standard rental period of 5 to 7 days.
Suitability
Is the 15 yard the right size for you?
Rough working figures. Weight, not volume, is what usually decides.
Choose the 15 yard for
- Garage, attic and basement cleanouts
- Kitchen and bathroom remodels
- Flooring, carpet and drywall removal
- Deck or small porch removal
- Yard cleanups, tree trimmings and storm debris
Pick a different size for
- Whole-home cleanouts - the 20 or 30 is the better size
- Loads that are mostly concrete, tile or dirt (a 10 may cost less)
- Paints, thinners, oils, fuel, tires, batteries or propane tanks
- Asbestos, medical waste or appliances containing refrigerants
Placing a 15 yard container in Chesapeake
It needs a flat, solid spot about 14 feet long and 8 feet wide, such as a driveway or pavement, not the lawn, with clear room for the truck to reach it and pull out, and no vehicles or obstructions in the way; we check the spot on the call. The driveway comes first. Chesapeake's zoning page puts roll-off containers and dumpsters inside its definition of "container" and sets limits for portable storage containers on residential lots; the page does not say which limits apply to a dumpster, so we check the City's rules before booking. For property that is not residential, the page says containers "follow other regulations" (Zoning Ordinance sec. 13-402, which we could not read). The City's permits page says permits may be required for excavation and construction and does not mention containers. We found no street-placement or hauler-licence rule on the City pages we could read. We check the City's rules before booking. For added protection, you can put plywood or boards under the wheels. Each town page covers its own rules.

15 Yard Dumpster — questions we get asked
Not covered here? Call (757) 844-5926 and ask.
How big is a 15 yard dumpster?
About 14 feet long, 8 feet wide and 4.5 to 5 feet high. It holds about 15 cubic yards, roughly four to five pickup truck loads.
Will a 15 yard fit in my driveway?
Most residential driveways, yes. It needs about 14 by 8 feet of flat, solid ground and room for the truck to reach it. The street is the fallback, not the plan: a spot in a street or right-of-way may need a City permit, and Chesapeake's zoning page sets rules for containers on residential lots. We check the City's rules before booking.
Can I keep it longer than the standard period?
Yes. The standard rental period is 5 to 7 days, set on your quote, and an extension is available for an additional daily fee. Just call.
What is the weight limit?
Typically 2 to 3 tons, depending on the debris type. Dense material such as shingles, tile or soil reaches that quickly, so tell us what you are loading before you book.
Can I mix materials?
Yes, for general household and remodel debris. For heavy material it is safer and more economical to keep it separate, because it uses the weight limit fast. Talk to us first about anything on the prohibited list: paints, thinners, oils and automotive fluids; batteries and electronics; propane tanks, fuel and pressurized cylinders; tires; medical waste; asbestos and hazardous materials; and appliances containing refrigerants.
