Where we deliver around Chesapeake

We run roll-off dumpsters from 210 Sampson Creek Rd, Chesapeake, VA 23322 to every community below. Distance is the first thing that changes. Approximate road miles from the yard: Chesapeake about 4, Norfolk and Portsmouth about 11, Suffolk about 20, Virginia Beach about 24, Newport News about 25, Carrollton and Hampton about 26, Windsor about 29, Smithfield about 32, Poquoson about 36, Isle of Wight and Tabb about 38, Grafton about 41, Seaford about 44, Yorktown and Franklin about 46, Wakefield about 47, Courtland about 52, Williamsburg about 55, Surry about 56, Gloucester about 60 and Toano about 65. Same-day or next-day is available when availability allows, and timing decides the rest.

The second thing that changes is the rules. Chesapeake's zoning page puts roll-off containers and dumpsters inside its definition of "container" and sets limits for portable storage containers on residential lots; the page does not say which limits apply to a dumpster, so we check the City's rules before booking. For property that is not residential, the page says containers "follow other regulations" (Zoning Ordinance sec. 13-402, which we could not read). The City's permits page says permits may be required for excavation and construction and does not mention containers. We found no street-placement or hauler-licence rule on the City pages we could read. We check the City's rules before booking. Virginia Beach's Right of Way Permits page says a permit is required for any activity within a City-owned right-of-way (a summary we read; the page does not mention dumpsters). We found no dumpster-specific street or licence rule. We check the City's rules before booking. Portsmouth's code requires a City Engineer permit for a trash or storage container in a street or right-of-way (City Code sec. 32-9), and a permit for a private solid waste collection business (sec. 16-187). We check the City's rules before booking. Hampton's code says no City dumpster service runs without a written agreement, and a dumpster in the right-of-way needs an encroachment application and City Council consent (City Code sec. 32.2-34, secs. 34-86 and 34-88). We check the City's rules before booking. Virginia lets localities set the times and placement of waste containers set out for collection (Code of Virginia sec. 15.2-928(A)(vii)), and lets them license haulers and create exclusive service areas (sec. 15.2-930(A), subject to sec. 15.2-934). Virginia's VDOT rules bar any nontransportation use of state-highway right-of-way without written VDOT permission (24VAC30-151-20), so a container never goes in the right-of-way of I-64, I-264, I-564, US-17, US-13, US-58, US-460, VA-168, VA-171 or any other state route. We found no state dumpster or hauler licence. We are licensed and insured. Each town page gives the section and the office to call.

The service area

Every community we cover, grouped by area

The run splits three ways: Chesapeake and the big cities, which are Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Hampton and Newport News; the Peninsula and York, which are Yorktown, Poquoson, Williamsburg, Tabb, Grafton, Seaford, Toano and Gloucester; and the south and west, which are Smithfield, Isle of Wight, Windsor, Franklin, Carrollton, Wakefield, Courtland and Surry.

Chesapeake & the big cities

Chesapeake, where our yard is, plus Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Hampton and Newport News, roughly 4 to 26 road miles from the yard (approx.). Chesapeake zones containers on residential lots. Norfolk's pages were blocked to our research, so we check the City's rules before booking there. Portsmouth and Hampton have street permit and consent rules that we check before any street spot. Same-day or next-day when availability allows.

Peninsula & York

Yorktown, Poquoson, Williamsburg, Tabb, Grafton, Seaford, Toano and Gloucester, roughly 36 to 65 road miles from the yard (approx.). York County's Chapter 19 sets a County-wide refuse service area, and Poquoson needs a City Manager permit to collect or transport solid waste. Williamsburg's code has no hauling rule we could find. Toano's and Gloucester's codes could not be read, so we check the County's rules before booking there. Same-day or next-day when availability allows.

South & west

Smithfield, Isle of Wight County, Windsor, Franklin, Carrollton, Wakefield, Courtland and Surry, roughly 25 to 56 road miles from the yard (approx.). The County's code licenses hauling of refuse for hire on County roads (§ 8-17), Carrollton's residential collection is under a County franchise, and Wakefield's code limits dumpster emptying to daytime hours. Franklin's code summary calls for a hauling permit. We check each place's rules before booking. Same-day or next-day when availability allows.

Service area questions

Not covered here? Call (757) 844-5926 and ask.

Which communities are same-day?

Many of them, depending on where the trucks are and when you call; call before noon for the earliest delivery. The closest places from the yard are Chesapeake, about 4 road miles, and Norfolk and Portsmouth, about 11. The furthest, Surry, Gloucester and Toano, are about 56 to 65 road miles. Where a place needs a permit or has its own hauling rules, we check them before booking, which can take longer than a same-day window.

Do you serve places without their own page?

Call and ask. Neighborhoods and villages inside each place are inside our run, but they do not have their own pages. Tell us the address and we will tell you which rules apply. The rules follow the city or county the property is in, not the mailing address.

Why do town pages mention who may haul?

Because collection rules are set place by place. Isle of Wight County requires a Board licence to haul refuse for hire on County streets (sec. 8-17). Carrollton is in a County franchise area for residential collection. Portsmouth and Hampton have their own permit rules for containers in streets and right-of-way, and Chesapeake and Virginia Beach set their own limits on containers. We state what each place says, and where a place has rules that come first, we check them before booking.

Is the price different by town?

Delivery location is one of the things the price depends on, so the furthest places can cost more. We say so when we quote.

Where do the loads go?

To licensed Hampton Roads disposal and recycling facilities. Metal, concrete and yard waste are recycled whenever possible, and we ask what is going in before we quote.
