The 30 yard container in Chesapeake
The 30 yard takes the same 22 by 8 feet of ground as the 20; the extra volume is height. That makes it the natural pick when a job makes a lot of bulky or mixed debris and the site has no more room: full-home renovations, new construction, commercial renovations, large roofing projects and whole-house cleanouts. It holds about 30 cubic yards, roughly nine pickup truck loads, and fits most residential and commercial sites.
Its walls are about six feet high, so most of what goes in is carried or thrown rather than tipped from a wheelbarrow. Crews and contractors often prefer it on busy sites because it means fewer hauls.
Space needed
a flat, solid spot about 22 feet long and 8 feet wide, such as a driveway, pavement or a job site pad, not the lawn, with clear room for the truck to reach it and pull out, and no vehicles or obstructions in the way; we check the spot on the call
Full-home renovations and construction debris
Taking several rooms back to the studs fills a 30 quickly: drywall, wood, cabinets, flooring and fixtures. New construction, commercial renovations and large roofing jobs make the same kind of debris. Sort out paint, oil, fuel, batteries, tires and anything hazardous first, because those stay out of every container we run.
Demolition jobs have their own rules for asbestos and hazardous material. Asbestos is not allowed in our containers, so tell us before a demolition starts.
Weight, swaps and long jobs
The 30 yard includes disposal of about 4 to 5 tons, depending on the debris type. It is built for bulky material; dense material such as tile or concrete can reach the weight limit before the container is full, so plan by weight and keep the load level with the top rim. If the project is mostly concrete, brick or dirt, a 10 or 15 yard is more efficient. The flat rate covers delivery, pickup, disposal within the weight limit and a standard rental period of 5 to 7 days. Longer jobs go on extensions or swaps, and contractors can ask about scheduled pickups.
Suitability
Is the 30 yard the right size for you?
Rough working figures. Weight, not volume, is what usually decides.
Choose the 30 yard for
- Full-home and multi-room renovations
- Whole-house and estate cleanouts
- New construction and commercial renovations
- Large roofing projects
- Demolition debris and bulky materials
Pick a different size for
- Mostly concrete, brick or dirt (a 10 or 15 yard manages the weight better)
- Paints, thinners, oils, fuel, solvents or other hazardous material
- Batteries and tires
- Asbestos, medical waste or appliances containing refrigerants
Placing a 30 yard container in Chesapeake
It needs a flat, solid spot about 22 feet long and 8 feet wide, such as a driveway, pavement or a job site pad, not the lawn, with clear room for the truck to reach it and pull out, and no vehicles or obstructions in the way; we check the spot on the call. The driveway comes first. Chesapeake's zoning page puts roll-off containers and dumpsters inside its definition of "container" and sets limits for portable storage containers on residential lots; the page does not say which limits apply to a dumpster, so we check the City's rules before booking. For property that is not residential, the page says containers "follow other regulations" (Zoning Ordinance sec. 13-402, which we could not read). The City's permits page says permits may be required for excavation and construction and does not mention containers. We found no street-placement or hauler-licence rule on the City pages we could read. We check the City's rules before booking. For added protection, you can put plywood or boards under the wheels. Each town page covers its own rules.

30 Yard Dumpster — questions we get asked
Not covered here? Call (757) 844-5926 and ask.
Is a 30 yard too big for a house?
For a regular cleanout, often yes - a 20 yard handles many whole-home cleanouts. For a multi-room renovation or a large estate cleanout, the 30 is the usual choice. Tell us the job and we will say which.
Can I do swaps on a 30 yard?
Yes. When it is full we can swap it for an empty one, and contractors with ongoing work can set up scheduled pickups.
How much weight is included in a 30 yard?
Typically 4 to 5 tons, depending on the debris type. A 30 full of tile or concrete can pass that before it reaches the top rim, so heavy-only loads should be discussed with us first.
Do I need a permit for a 30 yard?
It depends on where it sits. On private property, Chesapeake's zoning page sets rules for a container on a residential lot. A container in a City street or right-of-way may need a City permit, and we never place a container in a state highway right-of-way. We check the rules for your address before booking.
